📈 Starting from Zero to Building a Team

It’s a wild ride starting in real estate. 🌪️ My journey began at a small brokerage in Malibu, a beautiful place, but it was a bit far for me. However, that early mentorship was invaluable. I moved closer to Brentwood, and that’s where I found a mentor who opened doors for me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. At the start, the biggest challenge was earning trust. After all, who wants to sign up with an agent who hasn’t made a sale yet?

The first home I sold was a life-changing moment – not just professionally but personally. It was February 7th, 2016 – the day my son was born. 🍼 That moment in the hospital, closing a deal while welcoming a new life into the world, solidified my belief that this career was meant for me.

🏡 Finding the Right Brokerage

In the last eight years, I’ve worked at seven brokerages. It might sound like a lot, but each move was a lesson in finding the right fit. Each place offered different tools, networks, and philosophies. One thing I always prioritized was keeping relationships intact. I made sure to leave on good terms, recognizing that bridges burned are opportunities lost. 🔑

For new agents, I recommend interviewing multiple brokerages before committing. You’ll discover that every office offers unique strengths. Find a team or mentor who resonates with your values and goals. Don’t be afraid to explore different paths because each experience contributes to your growth. 🌱

📲 Instagram: Your Digital Business Card

My Instagram presence has been a game-changer. Even with a modest following, maintaining an aligned brand and engaging with others made a significant difference in my career. I connect with like-minded professionals and potential teammates through their digital presence. The key? It’s not about followers; it’s about how you show up. Consistency, authenticity, and engagement matter more than numbers. 💬

🛠️ Mentors, Teams, and Independence

I always knew I wanted to build my own team. Instead of joining someone else’s, I decided to hustle independently. Even when I had no assistant, I leaned on a transaction coordinator to handle the paperwork. When the time was right, I brought someone on board to share the workload and learn with me. Having a team made all the difference. Now, my team member focuses on leases that eventually turn into listings, creating a win-win situation.

If you’re starting, align yourself with someone you admire. Whether you join a team, become an assistant, or dive into marketing, learning from someone ahead of you on the journey is invaluable. The goal is to build relationships and avoid burning bridges, so you can pivot smoothly when it’s time to take the next step. 🚀

✨ Your Circle Determines Your Success

The people you surround yourself with – photographers, stagers, title reps, and escrow officers – become your extended team. It’s crucial to find people whose work ethic mirrors yours. I prefer working with people who, like me, are available 24/7 because that’s what it takes in real estate. Find those who match your energy and dedication.

Your success is built not just on what you know but on who you have in your corner. Your team and extended network will directly reflect the service you offer your clients. Surround yourself with professionals who complement your strengths and push you toward success.

💼 The Takeaway: Building a thriving real estate career isn’t just about listings and sales – it’s about surrounding yourself with people you trust, respect, and grow with. Whether you’re joining a team, seeking mentorship, or building your brand from scratch, the relationships you cultivate will pave the way for your success.
